On Tuesday, July 19, Jenna Johnson opened up about her path to motherhood and disclosed that she struggled with infertility for two years before becoming pregnant. The Dancing with the Stars pro, 28, reflected on the joyous moment she first learned she was pregnant by releasing a video of the moment on Instagram, just days after she and husband Val Chmerkovskiy announced they were going to become parents.
How Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy Met
On Dancing With the Stars, Val Chmerkovskiy and Jenna Johnson worked together before becoming a successfully married pair. When the ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ alum joined the DWTS troupe in 2014, the duo first met. Chmerkovskiy had been taking part in the ABC competition series since the start of season 13, which was in 2011.
They initially were friends, but in 2015 they decided to take things further and began dating. For a few months, Johnson and Chmerkovskiy privately dated before calling it quits. The DWTS contestant from Europe briefly moved on with Amber Rose during season 23, but he and Johnson eventually reconciled. Chmerkovskiy proposed while on a romantic vacation to Italy in June 2018. The couple appeared to be a match made in heaven, and soon after their April 2019 wedding, they started thinking about having children.
Johnson Has 2 Years Of Infertility Struggles
Jenna always used to say to Val that she wanted babies, but unfortunately, she couldn’t conceive. They had been trying to have a baby for a while, and now that she is finally expecting a baby has made the couple ecstatic.
Johnson experienced both ups and downs on the path to motherhood. She stated that it was heart-wrenching at times to stay optimistic and made her wonder whether she would ever have this opportunity after two years of infertility and hundreds of negative tests after negative tests.
At the same time, she thinks about people suffering from infertility and asks them to never lose hope by saying, if any of you out there are having trouble becoming pregnant, are experiencing infertility, or are grieving the loss of a pregnancy, don’t lose hope. Jenna says she will go into more detail about our fertility journey a little later.
Jenna Johnson Announces Pregnancy
Johnson posted a video of her initial shock at the outcome to Instagram with the caption saying the moment had changed her whole life. She continued with three more tests, panning the camera across the four favorable outcomes.
Johnson recorded herself in the social media post while she awaited the test results. She glanced at the pregnancy test and immediately started crying before revealing the positive findings from numerous tests.
Johnson stated in the caption that they had really stopped trying to get pregnant for about six months to mentally/emotionally give themselves a rest. Therefore, this moment’s amazement, disbelief, and sheer ecstasy will always be a memory for her, she adds. A brief video of Johnson receiving her first ultrasound was also provided on her Instagram.
Peta Murgatroyd Reveals Miscarriage
The announcement of the pregnancy follows Peta Murgatroyd, Johnson’s sister-in-law, talking openly about her struggles with infertility. The 36-year-old New Zealander, who has a 5-year-old son named Shai with husband Maksim Chmerkovskiy, posted on Instagram in June and refers to the public saying, they have undoubtedly been asking why they haven’t had more children when they keep stating how much they want to.
It’s been a long, difficult journey for Maks and me, she says, adding that they’ve been trying and she’s suffered three miscarriages. She continues by saying it was a really terrible, traumatic, stressful experience.
The professional dancer talked about her choice to be open and honest about her experience in order to inspire others. Jenna initially says that she didn’t want to tell anybody. Only six persons in total knew in their households. She was prepared to keep this a secret until the end and genuinely got tired of hiding it.
She discovered that keeping this a secret was more difficult than simply being honest. Day after day, it got difficult for her to maintain a cheerful demeanor, and she finally opened up about it and hoped to inspire people.
